We need Volunteer Organisers

Harpenden Helping Hand were at the Seniors' Fair in Harpenden on Tuesday April 4th held at the EMC. Chairman Chris Marsden and Helen Loveland spent the time explaining how they help local residents and persuading more local people to become volunteer drivers.

What work is involved?


Key committee roles:


Chair: leadership, long term planning, external communications, chairing AGM and 4 committee meetings per year.


Secretary: General administration, help with external contacts, DBS checks for new volunteers, internal communications, meetings preparation, social events.


Transport Co-ordinator: leads and supports the transport organisers, keeps records of journeys undertaken, updates organisers and committee on any relevant issues relating to transport e.g. hospital parking.


Communications manager: Updating website, writing news stories, managing our (future) Facebook page.


(Treasurer: manages the accounts, receives donations and pays out expenses. Job currently secured.)


The secretary, transport-co-ordinator and communications manager jobs are available after a short induction period. We also need a vice-chair, with a view to taking over as Chair in a year or so.


Volunteer Organisers: one week’s commitment every 2 months or so, to receive phone calls requesting our help and finding appropriate drivers and shoppers.
